Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to launch its new micro SUV – the Exter. The new SUV will be offered in five variants: EX, S, SX, SX (O) and SX (O) Connect along with three powertrain options. The Exter will sit below the Venue SUV in Hyundai India's lineup, which the company says will be the most affordable SUV. The company has already started booking the Exter and it is expected to go live in mid-July.
Exter gets a boxy parametric design language. The front fascia features a parametric grille and projector headlamps with H-shaped LED DRLs, and at the rear, the SUV gets LED tail lamps and an H-shaped LED light bar. Other notable features are its diamond-shaped alloy wheels, shark fin antenna, two-tone color variants with the effect of a floating roof and a sports slide. While for the interior of the SUV, the company has not revealed any details yet.
The Exter is equipped with notable features such as 6 airbags as standard, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill Assist Control), keyless entry, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ESS, anti- burglary, 3-point seat belt and seat belt reminder (all seats), headlight follow function, automatic headlights, ISOFIX, rear defogger and rear parking camera, dual camera dash cam and TPMS (Highline) among others depending on variants.
The Exter will be available in two powertrains: the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and the 1.2-litre dual-fuel petrol Kappa with CNG engine. The Kappa's 1.2-litre petrol engine will be mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a Smart Auto AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Meanwhile, the Kappa's 1.2-litre dual-fuel petrol CNG engine will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Hyundai India plans to launch the new Exter in five variants – EX, S, SX, SX (O) and SX (O) Connect – in mid-July. The company has not yet released the price of the SUV, but fans can expect it to come at a base price of INR 6.50 lakh. The SUV will compete with the likes of Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
